The entire base of the tower is surrounded by tall thick glass so in order to get in you must go through security. We chose to get our tickets for 4PM because in the Winter the sun generally sets by 5 or so. We bought our tickets from the Eiffel Tower website for around 28 USD per person. Nevertheless, going to the top of the tower is worth it and not as expensive as we expected. But be sure to arrive early in the morning to avoid the crowds. Also in the nearby trocadero there are plenty of opportunities with a much closer view of the tower. the best photos of the Eiffel Tower we suggest visiting the Arc De Triomphe which provide some of the most central views of the city and tower. Overall we enjoyed it but did not spend as much time outside just due to the fact that it is so cold during the winter months especially after dark! From there you can venture up to the top via a small flight of stairs to see from the outside although it is all fenced off so it’s not as ideal for photos. Once through the second elevator you will arrive at an indoor viewing point. To get to the highest point you’ll need to wait in line again and have a ticket that included a ride all the way to the top. The first elevator is definitely a little scarier because it feels less secure but it takes you up to the first open concourse along with a where many will opt to stay. They can fit around 30 people each time so waiting in line can take some time depending on how busy they are. Once in line you’ll go through a second security line before entering the elevators to go up. Even if you are 30-45 minutes after your start time they will generally still let you up but they won’t let you up before your time slot. ![]() ![]() To celebrate the centennial of the monument in 1989, the tightrope walker Philippe Petit crossed the 700 meters separating the Palais de Chaillot and the Eiffel Tower on a wire. For the best photos of the Eiffel Tower we suggest visiting the Arc De Triomphe which provide some of the most central views of the city and tower.
